Computer Forensics

WHAT IS COMPUTER FORENSICS?

With the explosion of computer and internet related crimes leaving trails of digital evidence, there is a growing need to increase forensic capabilities. At HD Forensics whether the crime involves drugs, violence, fraud, child pornography or even acts of terrorism, following the electronic trail is a critical component of putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

Although recovering digital evidence is a critical part of even the most routine police investigation, on the increase is the corporate organisation that is utilising computer forensics, investigating incidents such as inappropriate computer use, inappropriate email use, unauthorised data duplication and disloyal employees. Human Resource departments and Internal Security are the biggest users of these specialist corporate services.

The services we can offer are flexible depending on the clients needs, starting with a preview of the drive we can determine which information is available for recovery, this will then determine if a full recovery is required. A full recovery will search, recover and analyse all files on the drive ready to be used in the case at hand. At a very basic level HD Forenics can create an image of the drive, maintaining the drives integrity and allowing the drive to be returned.

At HD Forensics we provide advice to support legal counsel and management for complex and often data intensive settlements or trial. In order to do this training is constant and ongoing, we use the most current and advanced methods available such as:

  • Encase by Guidance Software and our investigators are forensic methodology trained. Encase is validated by numerous courts worldwide and is frequently honored with top security awards from eWEEK, SC Magazine, Network Computing and many others.
  • Access Data FTK (Forensic Toolkit). FTK is recognized as the leading forensic tool to perform email analysis.
  • Our staff are trained in the 7Safe CSTA and CSTP Ethical Hacking courses.

TROJAN DEFENCE

We have a proven track record of running a Trojan Defence where applicable. We appreciate how easily information and images can be downloaded with or without the users knowledge.

INTRUSION FORENSICS OR PEN TESTING

This recent development in computer forensics allows our computer forensics investigators to analyse data in its operational environment, i.e. on a network and in a live, running state. This advanced technique minimises disruption to commercial environments.
